How long has Baltimore had a problem with vacant houses? It may be longer than you think. The history of abandoned and vacant buildings in Baltimore is not only a story about people losing their jobs and moving away after World War II.

Eli Pousson, a historian and preservationist at Baltimore Heritage, shares the surprising and frustrating century-long history of how sprawling development and racism have combined to create the vacant housing problem Baltimore—and continue to shape what we are doing about vacant houses today.
